JUDITH LYNN: A STORY OF THE SEA kicks off Rascal Children’s Theater’s 2009/2010 season. This production, adapted from a short story by Annie Hamilton Donnell, was adapted by Rascal founder Dan Foss and is being directed by Elizabeth Hope Morgan, with stage management by Hope Reynolds.

At the turn of the century, young Judith Lynn helps support her family by working as a lobster fisher girl. Out in her boat on the big wide sea, she dreams of finding a way to help her younger sister walk again. When an idea strikes, Judith Lynn is whisked on the adventure of a lifetime, and learns the value of family and friends. This production utilizes music and movement to tell this uplifting tale.

The Rascal production features Jay Berger, Amanda Bobbitt*, Marissa Cowsill, Lydia Krupsky, Brett Lee, and Morgan Manasa. (* denotes Rascal Associate)

Performances are October 24th, October 31st, and November 7th at 1pm. The show runs approximately 45 minutes and is suitable for all ages.

The Side Project is located at 1439 W. Jarvis Avenue in Rogers Park (and easily accessible by CTA)

Tickets are available either through Brown Paper Tickets or by calling The Side Project’s box office at (773) 973-2150.

This weekend-long festival showcases local art, music, theatre, and other creative pursuits, and is an all-around great time.

The Rascal crew will be part of the event – manning the booth outside Lifeline theatre, and getting the word out about our season and the awesome Rogers Park Flex Pass, which gets you admission to shows at The Side Project, Lifeline Theatre, Raven Theatre, and Theo Ubique Theatre Company, plus restaurant dining discounts, for the great price of $50!  (Interested? Want one? Go here.)

Myself, Mr. Eric Prahl, and Ms. Morgan Manasa will be at the booth from 12-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Rascal Alumni and Friends featured in “The Wonder”

Posted by: jme82 on: August 13, 2009

WonderPostcardFrontHey Friends!

Spinning Yarns may have closed, and our new season hasn’t yet begun, but if you’re still seeking some great theatre we’ve got a show for you – and it’s populated with Rascal alumni and friends!

Some of our most talented friends – Brett Lee, Morgan Manasa, Eric S. Prahl, Hayley Rice, Megan Schutt, and Lisa Siciliano - are among the cast of Point of Contention’s production of “The Wonder – A Woman Keeps a secret” by Susannah Centlivre.  The show runs Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 8pm at the Boho Theatre/Heartland Studio in Rogers Park.  In addition, POC’ers Amanda Bobbitt (an Artistic Associate of Rascal most recently featured in “Spinning Yarns”) and Brandon Baisden (an all-around sound design god!) have contributed their technical expertise to the production – not to mention Miss Annie Passanisi, who is Marketing Director of POC (and was “Cinderella” herself in “Cinderella Goes Disco” last season.)

Yeah, we’re connected. :)

It’s a rollicking good time, and getting great reviews.

“The vocal energy and athletic stamina of a cast dominated by alumni of the Rascal Children’s Theatre corps lends itself to a fast-paced romp under the direction of Margo Gray.” – Mary Shen Barnidge, Windy City Times. (For the whole review, click here.)

Check out the show – it plays until August 26th!

Weehaw!!!

Alrighty varmints, let’s get ready for a blogging!

Your browser may not support display of this image.Well, looks like we’re winding up the end of the wagon trail.  Sunset is setting in the West and we’ve got one show left to go.

I’m sure going to miss the ole gang:

Our fearless writer/director/stage manager, Eric S. Prahl – a natural born safety-pinner and duct-taper!

The lovely and ever-so-wordy Princess, Jamie DesRocher – Why do I always get hungry for cake when I see her in that pretty dress of hers?

The dastardly and somehow strangely familiar (Mario?) Villain, Dan Foss – Who still hasn’t invited me over to his secret lair!  Golly, I sure do want one of those!

And of course, my “bright-eyed” and faithful Sidekick, Amanda Bobbitt – She sure does make some funny noises, doesn’t she?  And says the darndest things too!

Yep, a fella could get mighty lonesome out on the prairie, reminiscing about the good ole days – spinning yarns at The Side Project.

But wait!

Let’s not get our lookers all a’leakn’ just yet.

We got one show left to go!  And boy are we gonna go out with a bang!  Weehaw!

Alrighty little doggies, there’s just one thing you gotta do.  Trot on over to The Side Project at 1:00pm, this Saturday the 8th, and we’ll have a spot saved just for you.  I’d say meet us at high noon, but shucks!  I got a shootout to attend to across the street (That’ll be the last time they tell me they’re outta poppy seed bagels!).

Make sure you don’t miss us for our final throw-down!

Or I might just sick ole Red on you!  RAAAARR!

Your browser may not support display of this image.Just messin’ with you.  He’s not all that bad.  Just a mighty case of the halitosis!

Can’t wait to see all you little ‘pokes there!

Your Hero,

Brett Lee
